Carolina Panthers

NFC South | Bye Week: 14

Season Preview

The Carolina Panthers enter the 2025 fantasy football season with cautious optimism, anchored by quarterback Bryce Young in his pivotal third year. After a rocky start to his NFL career, Young showed significant improvement in the latter half of 2024, finishing as about a QB20 fantasy option and demonstrating better deep-ball accuracy and decision-making. While not yet a top-tier fantasy quarterback, he is considered a solid QB2 with upside and should support his skill players effectively in 2025. Andy Dalton remains the backup but suffered a minor preseason muscle injury, so the Panthers might keep extra depth at quarterback to be safe.

In the backfield, Chuba Hubbard leads the rushing attack after a breakout 2024 season where he posted over 1,100 rushing yards and earned a four-year contract extension. Hubbard is expected to remain the primary ball carrier but faces some competition and potential ceiling limitation with the addition of rookie Rico Dowdle. Dowdle is likely to be used in third-down and short-yardage situations, which could trim some of Hubbard’s upside but also strengthen the team's overall ground game. Rookie Trevor Etienne is another depth piece, but Hubbard remains the clear fantasy focus at running back.

The Panthers upgraded their receiving corps notably with first-round pick Tetairoa McMillan, who steps in as the new No. 1 wide receiver after the departures and reshuffling of last year’s group. McMillan is projected to operate as a WR3 range fantasy option, joining second-year receiver Xavier Legette and veteran Adam Thielen, who both provide depth and WR4/5 upside. Tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders is a potential fantasy breakout candidate in his second year but remains unproven entering 2025. This receiving core is intriguing but will likely need time to develop consistency around Young’s improving quarterback play.

Defensively, the Panthers addressed their last-place ranking from 2024 by adding several veterans and promising draft picks on defense, including Tershawn Wharton, Tre’von Moehrig, and Bobby Brown. Pro Bowl defensive lineman Derrick Brown returns from a torn meniscus that ended his 2024 season prematurely. While this won't impact fantasy scoring directly, a better defense could help keep games manageable for the offense, indirectly benefiting fantasy production. Overall, the Panthers appear poised for moderate team improvement, with a projected 6.5-win over/under and a likely 6-8 win record. Fantasy players should consider the Panthers a source of mid-tier QB and RB options and seek value in McMillan and Hubbard while tempering expectations.
