Seattle Seahawks
NFC West | Bye Week: 8
Season Preview
The 2025 Seattle Seahawks are entering the season with significant changes and renewed optimism under head coach Mike Macdonald. After finishing 10-7 last year with marked improvements on both offense and defense, the Seahawks have revamped their roster notably by trading away QB Geno Smith and WR DK Metcalf, while signing Sam Darnold as the new starting quarterback on a three-year deal. Darnold brings experience and a recent history of solid performance filling in for an injured starter, but fantasy managers should view him as a high-upside risk/reward QB2 rather than a safe top option. Meanwhile, Klint Kubiak replaces former offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, with an expected shift toward more rushing plays to leverage the team's strong backfield talent.
Running back Kenneth Walker remains a focal point of Seattle’s offense and should thrive in Kubiak’s run-heavy scheme. After dealing with injuries last season, Walker put up his best fantasy numbers to date, with 16.5 points per game and a career-high receiving output. His explosive playmaking and role as the lead back give him RB1 upside. Zach Charbonnet also presents significant value as a handcuff and potential standalone starter, having shown ability with three top-10 fantasy weeks in just six starts last season. Their combined talent gives Seattle one of the more promising rushing attacks in the NFL this year.
Defensively, the Seahawks are poised to continue being a top fantasy defense/special teams unit. They ranked 14th last year overall but were a top-5 fantasy defense mainly due to scoring five touchdowns on defense and special teams. Seattle generated plenty of pressure with an eighth-best sack and pressure rate and ranked seventh-lowest in net yards allowed per pass attempt. Although they were only 18th in forcing turnovers, the group’s ability to improve that could propel them to the very top of fantasy defenses if they develop more takeaways in 2025. Rookie and younger players like standout cornerback Devin Witherspoon add to the team’s defensive promise.
Wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba emerges as Seattle’s primary fantasy receiving target following the departures of Metcalf and Smith. He’s expected to be the clear No. 1 target and a focal point of the passing game, making him a compelling choice for fantasy drafters looking for upside from the receiver position. Additionally, Elijah Royal is another receiver to watch, as preseason appearances suggest he could make explosive plays in the offense this year. The Seahawks offense might lack traditional star power overall, but the pieces fit well together under Kubiak’s system to offer a balanced and cohesive team capable of winning 10 or more games in 2025.
